  • Key in developing educational and research programmes to tackle problem

Welcoming the publication of the British Gambling Prevalence Survey by the Gambling Commission today, 15 February, Professor David Miers, who chairs the Responsible Gambling Strategy Board's (RGSB) Research Panel, says:

"Any rate of problem gambling and risk of exposure is both a political and public health concern, and highlights the continuing need for targeted research, education, prevention and treatment.

"This national survey is welcome becasue it will be a useful tool in understanding who gambles and how they gamble and thus aid us in refining our thinking about ways of preventing people being affected by gambling-related harm, as well as helping to develop educational and research programmes aimed at tackling the problem."
