The Responsible Gambling Strategy Board (RSGB) published its initial strategy in October 2009, with a commitment to producing a fuller version in the first half of 2010.
Since last autumn, the RGSB and its three expert panels – in Research, Prevention and Education and Treatment – have been in discussion with a wide variety of stakeholders. Considerable development work is already under way, and relationships have been built that set the scene for future developments.
The RGSB has decided that its Strategy should be dynamic – not a conclusive statement of intent - and should be updated on an annual basis. It has recognised that the ambitious timetable set out in the initial document did not fully anticipate the time required for developing contacts and partnerships with those sectors, institutions and interest groups which have had little or no previous experience with the issues of responsible gambling. It is therefore now planned that the next version of the Strategy will be published in the autumn, with the expectation that this will become an annual pattern.
Meanwhile, the RGSB is continuing to work closely with the Responsible Gambling Fund (RGF), and is advising on the programmes of work that the RGF has begun to commission.
The RGSB is also developing a communications strategy, so that interested parties within the gambling industry, within treatment providers for problem gamblers, within Government agencies, within the NHS, the voluntary and community sector and others, can be kept fully up to date with developments.
